Forecast

In GTD, the calendar is one of the core lists. Things that must happen on a specific day. The Forecast view is your calendar—tasks with start and due dates laid out so you can see what's scheduled when, plan capacity, and avoid overcommitment.

What you see

  • Tasks with start dates and due dates appear on the calendar
  • Tasks span from start to due (or show as a single day if same)
  • Overdue items are highlighted
  • Day, week, and month views

Planning with forecast

  1. Set start dates on tasks when you plan to begin.
  2. Set due dates for deadlines.
  3. Use time estimates to gauge how much fits in a day.
  4. Open Forecast to see the spread and adjust.

Capacity and overcommitment

Forecast helps you see:

  • How much is scheduled each day
  • Whether you're overcommitted
  • Gaps for new work or buffer

If a day is packed, move tasks or reschedule. GTD says: the calendar is sacred. If it's on the calendar, it happens. So use Forecast to keep it realistic.

Calendar + next actions

The calendar is for day-specific and time-specific items. Everything else lives in your next actions list. Forecast shows the calendar. Views and Engage mode show the next actions. Together they're your GTD system.
